Resident survey methodology
375 surveys were delivered to Orchard Hill households.  
August 15, 2002, return date.  
53 surveys were returned.
This represents a 14.1 percent response rate, based on 375 units.  

Resident ratings of Orchard Hill Neighborhood conditions
The lowest rated general appearance, condition, and maintenance:
Apartment buildings (56.9%);
Commercial property (54.9%) and
Vacant lots (54.9%)

The lowest rated qualities:
Public transportation (51.9%);
Police protection (32.1%) and
Snow removal (30.2%)

The lowest rated availability of services:
Jobs for adults (85.8%);
Adult recreation activities (84%);  
Senior recreation activities (82%);
Youth recreation activities (78.5%) and
Jobs for youth (77.6%)
*(fair or poor condition)

Perceptions of the neighborhood:
Top problems rated “moderate” or “serious” by residents were:
Speeding (94.2%);
Noise from neighbors and/or cars (92.0%) and
Illegal drug use (82.3%)
Residents thought the neighborhood had no  problems with:
Lack of trees along streets (46.9%) and
Assault (16.0%)

More than 60 percent of residents agreed that:
A neighborhood association is helping to improve the area (76.9%);
They plan on staying in the neighborhood (75.5%) and
They feel safe in the neighborhood (61.5%)
