The Master’s Degree in Urban Studies (MSUS) from UNO offers students many professional opportunities and careers addressing issues in the urban environment. The MSUS equips graduates with research, analytical, and developmental skills enabling them to engage in career paths such as community developer, program manager, planner, economic developer, and researcher. Recent UNO MSUS graduates work in a variety of organizations including local government agencies, community development organizations, community foundations, city planning departments, university outreach offices, quasi-governmental finance authority.

Urban Studies is rooted in the creation of the College of Public Affairs and Community Service in the early 1970s. Initially functioning as an independent academic unit, in the 1980s Urban Studies became an administrative component of Public Administration.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha provides graduate students in Urban Studies with many opportunities to develop what they learn in the classroom.

Community outreach activities & applied research projects. Students have the opportunity to work with community organizations and faculty on community outreach and academic research projects.

Internships. Students who do not have professional experience serve in an internship as part of their academic program. Community-based organizations and agencies provide internships for Urban Studies students.
